Inspired by the shores of the British coastline, this collection of paper shells and seaweed celebrates the quiet treasures that can be found along the water's edge. Growing up, I spent countless hours exploring beaches and rock pools, filling a bucket with shells, seaweed and other discoveries before carefully arranging them on the sand. Those moments of curiosity and close observation became the starting point for this collection.
Hand sculpted from reclaimed brown packing paper and recycled tissue paper, each shell and strand of seaweed has been individually shaped to capture the subtle forms and textures of the natural specimens. Together they form a life-sized study of the small discoveries that often become our strongest memories of the coast.
Why This Collection?
Nowhere in the UK is more than around 80 miles from the sea, making the coastline a landscape that connects so many of us. Whether through childhood holidays, walks along the beach or quiet afternoons spent exploring rock pools, shells have a remarkable ability to evoke memories and a sense of place.
This collection is part of a larger body of work inspired by the British coast, celebrating the overlooked beauty of the natural objects we often gather almost without thinking. By recreating these familiar finds in reclaimed paper, I hope to encourage a moment of reflection on the landscapes that shape our memories and our relationship with the natural world.
Handmade from Reclaimed Paper
Every sculpture begins with careful research, drawing and close observation before being cut entirely by hand from reclaimed papers. I deliberately leave traces of the original paper visible, allowing fragments of a past life to be woven into each piece. By transforming discarded materials into detailed studies of plants and insects, I hope to encourage a deeper appreciation of the natural world and the stories hidden within it.
Framing
Each piece is displayed in a handmade solid wood frame, made specifically for the sculpture. The timber is carefully selected to complement the work and is lightly oiled to protect it. Every piece arrives ready to hang.
Caring for Your Artwork
To preserve your artwork, display it away from direct sunlight and avoid areas with high humidity or excessive heat, such as bathrooms or directly above radiators. With simple care, your sculpture will be enjoyed for many years.
